20 years after the city of Auburn was founded, the Auburn University was established. It was first named the East Alabama Male College and was changed to the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Alabama. Finally, in the year 1960, it was changed to Auburn University and offers varied academic programs and a large curriculum. The Auburn City Schools, also in Alabama, is the fastest growing school district in the area. It is recognized as one of the nation's top public school systems, thanks to its progressive use of technology and unwavering support from the city and the community. It is one of the only 12 high schools in Alabama that offers an IB (International Baccalaureate) diploma.

The Auburn Tigers did well in their last match against the Washington Huskies when they went home with a 21-16 victory. This made up for the losing games they suffered on their last two trips to Atlanta. They joyous victory wrapped up when Auburn Tiger's running back Jatarvious Whitlow ran 10 yards for a touchdown with the clock ticking at a remaining 6:15 on the day of the game. The defense came through with a fierce pass against Washington Huskies' quarterback Jake Browning. Tigers coach Gus Malzahn said that they didn't win any close games in the last season and knew that the game was going to come down to the end.
